A few days ago I listened to a song called "Another Girl, Another Planet". Obviously it was not the first time I have heard this mind blowing song. But it is the first time I have heard the version by Blink 182. For you people who have heard this version, and the original it will hopefully seem obvious that The Only Ones own that song! They make it amazing. Blink 182 didn't trash the song, the version was okay, just quite similar to most the songs you hear from those kinds of bands. What was taken away from the song however was what made it such an amazing song in the first place, and that was simply how raw it was, how "British" it was.
This brings two questions...
1: Is the original always better.
I think the answer to this is quite simple. No. The original is not always better however in many cases it is.
Some examples of the original being the best -
This example! - Another Girl, Another Planet.
You Really Got Me (The Kinks)
Eleanor Rigby (The Beatles)
Song 2 (Blur)
I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys)
etc etc
Some examples of the cover versions being the best:
Umbrella (Original:Rihanna - Cover:Biffy Clyro)
Love Machine (Original: Girls Aloud - Cover: Arctic Monkeys)
David Watts (Original: The Kinks - Cover: The Jam)
etc etc
2: Is British music generally better than music from America.
Now, I don't mean to offend anyone, but I think the answer to this is quite simple also. In my humble opinion it is! It has more substance and feeling than most songs from popular American bands. I don't mean to generalise but the greatest artists/bands ever have come out of Britain.
For example, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Jam, David Bowie, The Clash, The Who, Oasis, Blur... and lots of modern bands too!
Maybe its all the tea...
